Silversea Cruises

Overview

Silversea offers both luxury cruises and expedition voyages on purpose-built ships that navigate polar and exotic regions. Crew members on all ships in the fleet receive the same training and are held to the same rigorous standards. Passengers, on both luxury and expedition ships, enjoy spacious suites, personal service, gourmet cuisine and complimentary wines, spirits, beer and other beverages. The vibe is upscale yet friendly. No matter the type of voyage, passengers can expect a mix of popular ports and rarely visited destinations on destination-intensive itineraries.
Silversea Expeditions cruises have an additional secret weapon: the ships' expedition staff of highly trained guides and naturalists. They give lectures and accompany shore excursions so they can impart everything you need to know about the region's flora, fauna and indigenous culture. In addition, voyages are often built around visiting experts, such as scientist, conservationist and educator Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas (who is to the orangutan what Jane Goodall is to the chimpanzee) and dancers Daria Khokhlova and Artemy Belyakov from Russia's Bolshoi Ballet. It's this level of access to experts that typifies Silversea voyages.

Onboard Activities

Italians are famous for the bounty of their tables and the sheer delight in sitting down to a meal with good company. Here are dishes to intrigue both the palate and the spirit. Created from the freshest ingredients. Substantial and delightful. Traditional and imaginative. Perfectly paired with superb wines, and finished with desserts that bring a contented murmur of satisfaction.

Silversea features a variety of dining options on board including The Restaurant (the main dining room), Le Champagne, La Terrazza (indoor/outdoor cafe), a Poolside Grille, plus 24-hour in-suite dining.

Silversea has set aside a variety of sailing with a special focus on epicurean delights. There are voyages with special chefs who demonstrate their techniques and offer up some amazing meals. There are cruises that focus on wine with excursions to renowned wineries, along with onboard lectures. Some sailings even have you attend a specially designed cooking school called L’Ecole Des Chefs by Relais & Chateaux.
During your sailing you have several enrichment classes available to you. Learn a new skill on the computer or brush up on your dance skills at a dance class. There are also destination seminars, and your sailing might feature an experienced guest speaker or two.
You can play a rousing round of bingo one afternoon or participate in a few exercise classes in the fitness center. Silversea Cruises’ luxury ships even have an area for shuffleboard, table tennis and golf putting. Plus, in the pool you can even get in a game of water volleyball.
Silversea’s ships all include boutique shopping where you can find beautiful clothing and jewelry, or just stock up on travel essentials.
Each of Silversea’s ships has a well-stocked library where you can enjoy a great novel or non-fiction best seller. In the afternoon you can catch a matinee at the ship’s theater.

FAQs

Are dining tables and seating times assigned?
The main dining room aboard all Silversea ships, The Restaurant, has an Open Seating arrangement, which means no assigned dining time or table. Arrive at your leisure and dine with the friends of your choice. Please discuss your dining preferences with the Maitre’d once on board.
How many formal nights are on my cruise, and what type of clothing is worn?
Find out what to pack. All the details are shown in the General Information section. For Silversea Expeditions guests sailing aboard Silver Explorer, casual resort wear is appropriate at all times when on board, with the exception of two evenings when Informal attire is required. For men, this means a jacket, tie optional.
May I make reservations in the speciality restaurants prior to embarkation?
Dining reservations for the specialty restaurants may be made once on board and online through My Silversea 120 days - 2 days prior to departure.
Are there any children's programmes or babysitting services on board?
Although Silversea permits children aboard as guests, there are no special programmes for children on board, and Silversea does not provide for the care, entertainment and supervision of children.
Is there Internet service on board?
Yes. All Silversea ships are equipped to offer wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access. You can use your own laptop to surf the Internet and check emails at Wi-Fi locations throughout the ship, or from the comfort and privacy of your suite. Computers, email and Internet access are also available on board at the Internet Café. However, it is important to understand that telecommunication services while at sea are via satellite and significantly different than high-speed connections on land back home. The signal travels in a similar manner to radio waves but at much greater distances. Therefore, onboard Internet access is not guaranteed at all times. Satellite communications are also affected by weather and the ship’s location. In particular, Internet service is extremely sporadic while in the Arctic. Guests aboard expedition cruises to/from Svalbard should be prepared to be out of communication for the duration of their time on board.
Is there mobile phone (cell phone) service on the ship?
Yes. Onboard mobile phone service enables you to make and receive phone calls, text messages and other select data services on your mobile phone even when miles away from land. Your mobile phone service provider will bill you for calls and/or messages, which may appear as roaming charges. Please note that mobile phone service is sporadic at best while in the Arctic. Guests aboard voyages to/from Svalbard should be prepared to be out of communication for the duration of their time on board.
Will I be able to change currency on board?
It is a good idea to exchange some of your funds at a bank before leaving home. Most international airports also exchange funds, though they often charge higher exchange fees. In certain ports of call there will be a local bank representative on board to exchange funds into the currency of the host country.
